A Medical Compliment

I had a doctor appointment today. Just an overall physical, bloodwork, checking out my bum knee, that kind of thing.

So the doctor glances at my chart while we're wrapping things up. "Are you an athlete?" he asks me.

I decide this is the perfect time to make a crack. "Well, I do chase my daughter around a lot!"

"Huh," he says, unimpressed. "You have a very athletic-looking EKG."

Me! An athletic-looking EKG! It's not as great as having an athletic-looking tush, but heck, I'll take it!

My kitchen is: Lovely and shiny. Cleaners were here yesterday, and we ordered in pizza for dinner.

Your father, age 53, ran a 5K yesterday in 21.59 or 7:05 minute mile pace and I was sick. 13:36 at the 2 mile or 6:47 pace to that point...just too pooped to keep it going.

Okay, Cathy's dad was men's swimming champion in Detroit, my dad was a champion softball pitcher...in fact one company hired him even though they were laying off people just so he could pitch for them, my brother was 10th in the State Meet for Cross Country and Fourth I think for wrestling. Me, I was 18th at the regional out of 268 and ususally in the top 25 at the big invitationals. I was third or fourth man on my cross country team Junior and Senior years and we never lost a league meet. I was second in the half mile for my league one year... league was two schools in Lansing, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Jackson (6A league).
