Bad Science Sucks

And you thought low-carb pasta was ludicrous...

Low-carb orange juice?
Low-carb jam?
Low-carb potatoes?!?

People, it's not the carbohydrates, it's eating freaking too much food in the first place, across all types of macronutrients. And not even THAT so much as cozying up with the remote control or keyboard and staying there for a statistically significant fraction of every single day. Fruits and vegetables are your friends! Mmm, vitamins! Mmm, phytonutrients! Mmm, fiber!

We've had low-fat and low-carb, so now I guess we're waiting on the low-protein. Did you know that too much protein can impair your kidney function? Did you know that most Americans eat far more protein than their bodies need?!? I smell a best-selling diet book, coming this fall from Your Hips to Our Wallet Press.

It should be pretty obvious to everybody, by now, that moderation in all things is the key to a healthy diet. Not swearing off butter and cupcakes. Especially not swearing off blueberries and asparagus! I admit, in the environment our society has built for itself, moderation is rarely the easy path to take.

But... just because it's not *easy*, why must people convince themselves that it's not desirable? Why the hocus-pocus preying on those who don't have time to obsessively research everything the way I do?

Also, found in an ad for a diet supplement: "...contains a unique combination of active ingredients that work on the cellular level and can help move fat out of cells and promote the weight loss process!" Dude. In biology in 9th grade, they did not teach us that there was fat in cells. In fact, fat is a KIND of cell.

Bad science makes me so angry.

My kitchen is: A little on the under-used side, though I did make actual dinner last night. Also, the battery-operated mop suffered a mishap, and the new one is not yet assembled, so the floor is a little... well... let's just say you shouldn't be eating things off it, 'k?
