I would recommend a nice hedge as fence. Don't take down your nasty fence, though, it keeps animals out (I hope).Privet is classic, but there are some lovely low-care rose shrubs that will reach 6 feet in height and bloom almost all summer. Cypress would grow more slowly, but be evergreen, a point to consider based on the ugliness of the yard you wish to screen. Just my thoughts. Nice pic.
