Geostashing

Michelle and I just got back from some Geocaching. Actually this was our very first Geocache adventure. The cache was very local. The GPS coordinates put it about 1.1 miles from our house (as the crow flies) however it's about 30 minutes worth of driving. I guess this speaks loudly of how "easy" it is to get around up here in our town. All in all, it was pretty easy to find. The difficulty rating was 1.5/5. I simply inputted the coordinates of the cache into my Garmin StreetPilot, drove to the approximate location and walked the rest of the way. We found the box right where the cache database said it would be. Actually it was inside the hollowed-out tree trunk and not behind it.
The box was an old ammo box... good choice for protecting its contents from the environment. It was clearly marked with a label.
Inside the box were several plastic ziploc bags containing a logbook...
... an explanation of Geocaching...
... and of course some items of interest (the cache itself)...
Here you can see Michelle writing our entry into the logbook...
Afterwards, we decided to take one item from the cache... a survival "trade pack".
The theme of this particular cache was "things that you sometimes unexpectedly need or wish you'd thought to bring with you".
We left behind one of those British Airways airline travel kits that you get on international flights.
After closing up the bags and box and placing the cache back where we found it, we made our way back across the muddy trail to the Jeep.
Stay tuned for our continuing adventures in Geocaching...
