Thanksgiving 2002

Today is American Thanksgiving. I know I, personally, have a lot to be thankful for this year. I have :

  • a beautiful, healthy new baby girl,
  • a job that lets me be a good mother to her,
  • a sweet and loving husband,
  • a family of in-laws who care deeply about our lives,
  • my own parents and brothers, who understand me and my need for independence,
  • terrific friends who love even the sarcastic, catty side of me....

I know I have a lot to personally be thankful for. But the world seems more frightening every day. We have a government riddled with corporate agendas and an astonishing lack of concern for the environment. Violence persists in the Middle East, when a few years ago, it seemed that peace was coming as surely as sunrise. Rumors of violence scuttle here and there in my own country; and our government ris eacting to these whispered threats in ways that erode the very things that make our nation worth defending.

Today, we eat turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes, we watch parades and football, and perhaps some of us count our blessings. But many of us do not know how truly blessed we are.

Take a break, guys. Offer some gratitude to the universe that you live in the world where the stock market and the state of the economy are the important things, and not whether your harvest will get you through the winter or whether your family will be disappeared by the government while you sleep. Odds are you're luckier than you think.

My kitchen is: messy.

I am still impressed by how well you write! We had a nice Thanksgiving at my mother and dad's. I made two pumpkin and a bannana cream pie. I have become quite the gourmet cook during my short retirement. I also enjoy reading allot.

Alas, I go back to work on contract tomorrow. At a time when they are cutting the budget that is no small thing. It is only for five months.

I am truly thankful for my great children who are smart, capable and nice people too!! I have also two of the greatest grandchildren of all time.

Good to see you here, dad. :)

I've had an adventure this week, and I'll be posting about it soon.
