I Want My Money Back

When I moved to New York, it was with the understanding that the winters on Long Island tend to the wet and mild, not so much with the ice and snow that never melt sort of thing.

This morning, when I went outside, it was 13 degrees. My car was covered in a layer of snow with a crunchy ice shell beneath it. My car doors crackled as they opened (which I had to struggle to do) because they'd been frozen shut.

This is not New York weather. This is Michigan weather, that I very specifically moved to escape! This should be against the law. It's clearly in violation of an understood contract between myself and Mother Nature. I am so talking to my lawyer about this. Also I am making plans to winter at my mom's house in THailand from now on. Nobody will mind, right?

Interestingly enough, Sasha remembered about how Mommy has to get the snow off the car before we drive, and that we use the ice scraper to do it. All the way from last year! Without my reminding her!

SUPAH-GENIUS BABY, I'm telling you.

Yeah, it's been unnaturally cold here, too. Scraping the windows cold (but our one day of snow melted pretty quickly). I don't even own an ice scraper anymore. Last year, our 'wet and mild' winter included a couple of ice storms - that's some fun driving, with all these people who rarely see ice and all the hills. If you get a refund, so do I.

Andrea, where are you on LI? My husband's brother and wife live in Rockville Centre.

YOU'RE making plans to winter at my Thai home from now on...think how I feel. I'M the one with the home there, and still stuck in this frigid blast.

HA! Wet and mild? I don't know who told you that big 'ol lie, but they're a big lying liar with some flaming trousers. Granted, our winters aren't as bad as, say, Chicago winters, or Michigan winters, but they suck mightily. I suggest you start convincing Matt and Sasha that they want to move to Hawaii. You guys can join us when we make the great Hawaiian Pilgrimage. We're trying to get as many people to come with us as possible. :)

OK, I agree my mom has it worse. But... Erica... I mean wet and mild in comparison to Michigan, where it starts snowing in November and doesn't MELT until March because it never gets warmer than 30 degrees again...

Sigh. Sign me up for the moving to Hawaii.
